Swimmers within the club are split into squads that train together based on their ability, age and if they are selected for a team. Each squad has an increase in training in the pool to reflect the increasing level of ability needed for the swimmers to pass their grades and compete in competitions.
In our club we have the following squads (although these are subject to change in line with the swimmers we have in the club):
These squads are for beginners and developing beginners, as well as those who wish to do Artistic Swimming recreationally.
Dolphins aim for swimmers to complete Basic Skills 1. They usually train for an hour per week.
Flamingos aim for swimmers to complete Basic Skills 2 and Grade 1 Figures. They usually train for 90 minutes per week.
Porpoises are our recreational squad (dependant on numbers.) These swimmers learn and train in Artistic Swimming but do not work towards grades or compete. However, they may learn routines to perform at club events such as the Summer Show.
For swimmers who are working towards their Grade 1 but have not achieved it yet. These swimmers usually train 4.5 hours per week, including the addition of land training. Novice swimmers have the opportunity to swim at Regional competitions in addition to taking their Grades.
The following squads continue to work on their Grades (both Figure Grades and Routine Grades) as well as start to train and swim ‘team’ which is routines set to music. These squads will also be encouraged to compete both individually and in teams in Regional and National Swim England competitions at National Age Group Championships, Champs, and Combo Cup:
For swimmers who are approaching their 12th birthday and under. They will be working on developing their skills and working their way through their grades. These swimmers generally train 7.5 hours per week, including 2 hours of land training.
For swimmers who meet the Swim England ability and age range requirement. They will have additional training and will usually train 11.5 hours per week.
For swimmers who are between 13 (including those who are approaching their 13th birthday) up to 15. These swimmers train 11.5 hours per week, including 2 hours of land training.
For swimmers who are 15-18. They train 12 hours per week, including 2 hours of land training. These swimmers will also be offered the opportunity to begin to train as coaches within the club.
Training venues vary throughout the week depending on what kind of training is required for the swimmers. These are all within the local area.
Once you are a member of the club, you will have access to our Member’s Area, where you will find all training schedules, club policies, and other guidance.
